1. Test Your Tech
Do a technical test on your devices you’ll be using for your interview to make sure it’s working properly.
Have a friend or family member do a trial video call with you, so you have time to adjust if your equipment or software isn’t working properly.
2. Dress To Impress
Even though you’re conducting the interview from your home, it is important to be dress as you would for an in-person interview.
You want to make sure your outfit looks good on camera as well. Try it on in front of the same platform you’ll be using for your interview to make sure it will look good.
3. Set The Stage
Find a quiet, private, and well-lit place to do the interview — making sure to avoid coffee shops and other communal spaces where you can’t control the background noise.
Make sure your background is not too distracting as well. Do a trial run so that you know which position and background will look best.
4. Positive Body Language
Maintaining good eye contact and body position is crucial during any job interview, but it’s especially important during video interviews. Your camera should be at eye level and your body position should be well proportioned.
Make sure there’s a bit of empty space on the screen above your head and check that your shoulders and upper chest are visible.
5. Be Early
Open up the program where your video interview will take place a few minutes early. Before you fully enter the meeting, a lot of the common video interview software will give you a chance to check your shot. That way, when you click to join the call and the interview starts, “you’re already ready to go.”
